Judge Miss Ruth Longbottom (Catruane)

I have been awarding Challenge Certificates in Weimaraner’s for 13 years. Over this time, I have had the pleasure of awarding CCs 5 times, most recently at The North of England Weimaraner Society Championship Show.

I grew up around dogs, my parents initially had Cairn Terriers until being introduced to Weimaraner’s in 1984.

I started showing Weimaraner’s in 1990 with a puppy purchased from Stephen and Patsy Hollings’ All Breed Top Winning Kennel, Gunalt. My birthday present, Grady, enjoyed an illustrious show career, gaining his title Sh Ch Gunalt Hedonist JW and winning a number of top accolades, CC’s, Res CC’s, and Group placings.

In 1994, my mother and I formed our own affix, ‘Catruane.’ Under our affix, we have been fortunate enough to produce several dogs that have done well in the show ring over the years. To date, we have owned, bred or shown 14 Weimaraner Show Champions.

In 2011 my good friend Diane Stewart-Ritchie persuaded me to campaign a gorgeous Irish Setter Bitch Puppy, Gwendariff Gonna Be Special. Daisy went on to become Ir Sh Ch Gwendariff Gonna Be Special JW and was Our Dogs Top Puppy 2011. Following on from her was Gwendariff The Catz Wiskers JW, who produced Sh Ch Gwendariff Unknown Soldier JW Our Dogs Top Puppy 2015, 4 CC’s 6 Res CC’s, & Gwendariff We’ll RememberU JW. We then acquired Gwendariff Smart Red Jacket JW who was BPIS Irish Setter Breeders Club Champ Show 2019 & our most recent addition is Gwendariff We’ll Be Phame Us.

I am feeling very excited and humbled to have been invited to judge The Irish Setter Breeders Club Open Show. I am looking forward to my days judging with immense pleasure and anticipation. Irish Setters have always held a very dear place in my heart for a great many years.

Critique

Thank you to the Officers and Committee of the ISBC for giving me the opportunity to judge their Open Show held in conjunction with their Championship Show. I was very humbled & honoured to be asked & I am extremely grateful  to those who entered under me and to all the exhibitors for giving me the privilege of going over your lovely dogs & taking all decisions in a sporting manner. The entry was full of quality making for some difficult decisions at times. I am extremely  grateful to the two hardworking stewards who supported me in the ring keeping the classes running as smoothly as possible. I had a  thoroughly enjoyable day.
