I have had Irish setters in my life for the past 50 years. A few pets at first then after getting a few dogs from June & Ron Hill in Perth, who introduced us to the showing fraternity, one of June’s dogs was Ronjunes Eye Witness (Rhonan). What a character, still miss him to this day. My late wife Maureen and I decided it was time to get a bitch. One of Irene Munro’s bitches was having a litter. We went to have a look at these young Fetteresk puppies and fell for one, Maureen had a wonderful eye for dogs and picked out a beautiful pup. Fetteresk Conscientious of Cullmadons. She done well at the shows constantly placed, in those days it was classes of 25-30 so a placing was excellent. However Taylor did not like the showing, therefore we decided to mate her, first to Lynn Muir’s Konekakela Zager and then to Rab and Zena Barnes Shenanagin What Next. This was a special litter to us. 4 out of the litter were shown, Orla got 1 cc, 2 Res cc, her downfall was a lack of coat which still irks me today. Josh got his stud book number and then there was Travis, owned by the Patersons from Ayrshire, he won on the same day at Crufts Mid Lim (26) then he won Limit (27). I am currently showing Shenanagin oh oh seven (Sonny).
I am really looking forward to judging the ISBC Show. This will be my 4th judging appointment. Good Luck to everyone who enters the show. I can assure exhibitors your dogs will be judged with honesty, fairness and on the day.

My passion for Irish Setters began in 1970 when we acquired Kargray Charity (Copper) from breeders Denis and June Milward, on the recommendation of Joan Anderson (Andana). While we were out walking one day, we were approached by a well known Irish breeder and exhibitor, who admired Copper and said we should show her. At her first show, she was reserve out of seven (with the help of a choc drop) and we were hooked! Our shows at that time were confined to our local New Forest area, and were a lot of fun, with very sporting exhibitors.
We bred our first litter in 1973 and kept a bitch, Coppersheen Serenata (Amber). Mated to Sh Ch Stephenshill Gamebird, Amber produced Judith Lynch’s Coppersheen Beau Brummell, who went on to sire Sh Ch Corriecas Gideon.
As a journalist I have always enjoyed writing and in 1980 I wrote a book on the breed which was published by Foyle’s. Much of the information in the book is now out of date, and I would like to write an update.
Over the years I have bred half a dozen litters, the most successful of which was by Sh Ch Shenanagin Some Might Say it’s Bardonhill ex Marksway Magic Flute at Coppersheen, which produced two KC Stud Book winners, Coppersheen Cantilena and Coppersheen Chaconne.
I first judged at a limited show in 1980, and have enjoyed judging the breed since the . My first Ch show appointment was at National Gundog in 2011.
My kennel name, Coppersheen, was an amalgam of Copper and Sheena a GSD once owned by my first husband.
A puppy from one of our early litters went to Susan Stone in Switzerland, the niece of Copper’s breeders. Susan later acquired another granddaughter of Copper, who helped to establish her successful kennel in Switzerland, also with the kennel name Coppersheen.
I thank the committee for the invitation and am looking forward to my day judging at the Irish Setter Breeders Club show.
